Roy Biles '69 played a prominent part in the storied history of the future Class of '69 Hamlin Rebel Football Team. Hamlin went undefeated in their 7th, 8th, and 9th grade years leading up to the City Championship Game against the Northside Hurricanes. Hamlin had never tasted defeat. The Corpus Christi Caller Times ran a huge story in it's Saturday morning sports page detailing this historic match-up of 2 of the greatest running backs in Corpus Christi history to be held at Sundeen Jr. High School at 10:00AM  Mike "Butch" Bonich of Hamlin and Godfrey White of the Northside Hurricanes. Godfrey turned out to be the real deal, not only leading his team to victory, but in doing so getting a full scholarship to Baylor University, where he became an even bigger star ... Butch went on to fame at Ray High School, one of the greatest athetes of our time, the best that I ever saw ... I spent my younger years emulating Butch, from the way he positioned his glove on his hip while playing shortstop in between pitches  on the greatest team  in the history of the National Little League, to his batting stance. Butch was "GOD" when it came to sports in my world ... 

The 1974 "Gulf Star Foundry" Corpus Christi City League Softball Team 

This team ranked 3rd in the city that year out of hundreds of teams. Murry Parish is in the white windbreaker. He was the "Babe Ruth" of this team. The popularity of City League softball literally exploded at this time. From the original ball parks of Jaycee Field, located next to W.B.Ray High School near the corner of Staples and Kostoryz, Price Field near the corner of Weber and Gollihar, and Kiwanis Field across the Harbor Bridge on North Beach, the city had to build a new 4 field complex on Greenwood. But that was not enough. The city soon had to build yet another 4 field complex on Yorktown Rd. Athletes like Murry played a prominent part in this expansion ...
