Gary Wells '72

Marilyn Jackson Wells '72

Gary Darrell Wells went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gary was born on January 11, 1954 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward and Dorothy Wells. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marilyn Marie Jackson Wells; three precious sons, Charley Edward "Jake" Wells, II, Edward Darrell Wells, II and Gary Robert Wells, all of Corpus Christi, Texas; future daughter-in-law, Nicole Melton; two brothers, Mike (Suzanne) Wells of Montgomery, Texas, Mark (Kathy) Wells of Corpus Christi, Texas; and two sisters, Kathy (Dwayne) Perry and Vicki Collins, all of Corpus Christi; numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly and lots of in-law family.

Gary loved his family and people and especially loved the oilfield. He did his best to give and share whatever God gave him. When Gary found out he had cancer in October, 2006, he turned to the Lord, His Savior. He loved his Pastor, Bill Simmons and it amazed him how knowledgeable he was of the Bible.

Gary graduated from Carroll High School in 1972. He loved and played football and loved seeing his three sons play Calallen Wildcat Football. Gary worked in the oilfield all his working life. The last ten years he was a consultant which his Daddy and Granddaddy taught him so much about.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 28, 2008 at River Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Todd Perry, Derrick Perry, Trampus Wells, Trey Collins, Neal Mays, and Johnny Mays. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Graves, Wesley Jackson, Gary Mills, Kenney Myers, Robert Jenkins, Ronnie Eason, Jim Cassidy, Charlie Beyers, Shorty Loessin, and Joe Callahan.

Gary made a lot of wonderful friends. We would like to thank Dr. Ester Pollard and her staff for their loving care. In lieu of flowers the oilfield has set up a benefit fund account at First Community Bank, 416 Water Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78401 or 2200 East Main Street, Alice, Texas 78332.

I remember the first time I ever saw Gary. We were in our english class
the first day of the school year at Carroll HS. I looked over and saw this 'big ol' boy' who was all scratched up and black and blue. He noticed me looking at him and said in a gruff voice, "What are YOU looking at?" I replied, "YOU! What the heck happened to you?" We became great friends all through high school and after. I've loved Gary and his family for many years. I have many fond memories from our football years getting to 'cheer' Gary and the rest of our Tigers on! Gary, we will miss you! I trust your reunion with your precious Mom and Daddy was incredible, not to mention getting to be with the Lord for all eternity! Please give my Precious STAN and my Precious DADDY a VERY BIG GARY BEAR HUG for me! Love you, Gary!
NO MORE PAIN, NO MORE SUFFERING!!!
LOVE, KAY, MITCH, AND BOYS

I am so sorry to hear about Gary. I went all through school with Gary from elementary to high school. We also lived right down the street from each other. I haven't seen Gary since our first class reunion but I think about him every January 11th on his birthday. Thinking about all the crazy things that he used to do always makes me laugh. Gary, you'll be missed down here but what a fine time you'll be having in heaven. Marilyn, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Marilyn, It has been so long since I have seen you and the boys. Hugh, whom I work with, told me about Gary's homegoing. I was so sorry to hear it, I know you will have a void in your home, but know that he will always be in your heart and memory. I know the boys are all grown up now, I remember taking care of them in the nursery at Church of Acts. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during the time. Love ya'll.

Marliyn and Boys,
Please know that you all are in our prayers, we may be here in Oklahoma, but wish we could be there with you. I will always remember the half time bull sections at the game, and can still see Gary setting in his truck on location. May God keep you in this time.

Marilyn,
So sorry to hear about Gary. I know your head knows that he is in a better place and is completely healed, but the heart still hurts and God will be beside you all carrying you through.

What a wonderful tribute this is to Gary--it's like a reunion of folks that we all went to school with- from Calk Elem thru CHS!! Sorry that I did not know about this sooner, but my thoughts and prayers are certainly with you and your boys. God bless y'all.

Marilyn, you are truly a lesson in faith. Gary's faith was an inspiration to all that knew of his trials over the last few years. You are such a precious person and always have been a wonderful friend to all that know you. I have been in your shoes and the days ahead will be trying, but never let your faith waiver in the fact that everything happens in God's time.
I am sorry that I could not be there for the funeral and would have loved to have gotten to sing for Gary's going home celebration. Mary God bless you and your sweet sons in the days ahead.

Marilyn, Larry Mills called me about Gary; I want you to know that Robin (Breshears) and I have you in our thoughts. Gary lived next door to the twins Jerry and Gary Morris on Jean Street who were running buddies of mine in high school. I got to know Gary, Mark, and Kathy by my association with the twins and Mike Wells. Gary was a Hoot! We all would play tag football in the front yard with Ray Jones and Kenny Capon; well, let me tell you - when Gary got mad everyone and I mean everyone would scatter, ha. His older brother Mike wouldn't even mess with him. These are tremendous memories I have and I know you have a great loss. Time cannot erase these warm memories I have of Gary and how fortunate I am to have known him. God Bless.
