The following is a letter from Abie Ray Cooks 69 written to Linda Higgins Granberry, the Class of 69's Reunion Organizer
My last year at Carroll was 69 and I had to come back to California to live with my mom instead of staying with my dad in Corpus for my graduating year (or at least I think it was 69. Im getting old too :) I said that to say that although I cant attend I was wondering if you could put my name and phone number on the wounded but still in action Tiger Faithful List at the Carroll 50th Anniversary Reunion and tell everyone that as one of only 2 black students at Carroll at a time that I was to find out was not so smoothly integrated elsewhere, I felt accepted and at home and will never forget the love and friendship of my classmates. It helped shape me as the God respecting lovable person I am today and thanks to you all, I can honestly say I have never lifted my fist or my voice in bigotry or racial hatred to anyone, ever. God Bless us, every one. Sincerely Yours;
Abie R. Cooks
