Kirk Comeaux (April 14th 2006)
It is with profound sadness that
our family announces the death of our loved one, Kirk Peters Comeaux, who
passed away on Friday, April 14, 2006 at his home, after a fierce battle
against the effects of exposure to Agent Orange, when he courageously
served his country in Vietnam. He was surrounded by his loving family and
dear friends at the time of his death.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at an 11:00 AM Mass
of Christian Burial at St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana.
To honor his wishes, Kirk's final resting place will be in the Resthaven
Memorial Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, next to his
father-in-law, Bill Dixon, Sr., who loved him as a son and whom he loved
as a father.
Reverend Jerry Mesley of St. Edmond Catholic Church will conduct the
Funeral Services. Con-Celebrant will be Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor
of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church of Crowley .
Kirk was the beloved and faithful husband of twenty nine years to his
wife, Carolyn Dixon Comeaux; the adored father of Janaki Renee' and Katie
Fadra-Marie. To mourn his passing, Kirk also leaves his mother, Macie
Savoie-Price; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Linda Comeaux ,
Chris and Connie Comeaux, Martin and Paula Comeaux and Elroy Comeaux; one
sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Allen Scott; his mother-in-law, Fadra
Dixon and other survivors include numerous brothers and sisters-in-law,
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kirk was preceded in death by his father, Durphy Comeaux and
father-in-law, Bill Dixon, Sr. and an infant brother, Danny Comeaux.
Born October 20, 1951, he was only 54 years old. He was a Lafayette
business owner and decorated Vietnam Veteran. Kirk is one of the founding
members of Lafayette Chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA#141) and
was very influential in getting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial built in
front of the New Orleans Superdome in the early 80's. He was in Vietnam
with the 1st Cav Division from April 1970- November 1971 with the 2/20th
Aerial Rocket Artillery (ARA) attached from the 525th Signal group. Kirk
served in Vietnam, Katum, Bear Cat, Tay Ninh, Phouc Vinh, Nui Ba Din, Nui
Ba Rai and Song Be.
While it is noteworthy that Kirk lived a short life, it is much more
important to mention that he lived it fully with love, kindness, and
compassion for others. A devoted family man, he will be lovingly
remembered by them and a host of life long friends for his zest for life
and unselfish acts of kindness. Kirk quietly gave financial support to a
local children's home and the Carmelite Nuns and was always willing to
help a friend or family member in need. Over the years, he also mentored
troubled children and those in the Youth Challenge Program, whose lives
will be forever changed by his willingness to share his love and concern
for their well being.
Kirk will be sadly missed by his family and friends, who will find comfort
in having had him in their lives. His Catholic faith gave him the certain
knowledge that death is not the end of a life, but a place to wait
happily, until you are reunited with your loved ones forever in the
presence of God. We will miss your smile, your optimism, your never ending
persistence, your funny e-mails but, most of all, we will miss you.
A Rosary will be prayed Monday at 7:00 PM in the Martin & Castille
Funeral Home in Lafayette.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Monday from 4:30 PM
until 10:00 PM and Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
